What is the Point of Prayer?

"When we turn to God in prayer as if God is a gumball machine and our prayers are quarters, or as if God is Santa Claus, ready to leave gifts for good children who leave a note and cookies, or as if God is a genie who must grant our wishes, then we are not using prayer as Jesus did to sustain our relationship with God and seek God’s will."
