Promises of God, Part III: “The Promise of Identity, Instruction, Community, and Purpose"

Notice that the Commandments are not a set of rules for individual salvation. They are not about what happens to us after death, but about how to live life. God wanted the people to remain free from slavery and oppression in the Promised Land, so God told them what to watch out for even before they moved in.
