We want the autonomy of making our own decisions, and complete freedom to do things our way when and how we feel like it. But we also want to be taken care of and want God to fix the problems that human choices create when we do not do as God says. Effectively, we want the freedom of the Promised Land and the blessed convenience and comfort of continued manna at the same time.
