Gifts of Immigrants Sunday was on the calendar long before Springfield’s trouble began. But in my experience, when world events and what we are being asked to think about in the Church overlap, even if it makes us uncomfortable, it is best not to look away, because it is most likely the work of the Holy Spirit encouraging us or even demanding that we, as disciples of Jesus Christ, see what is happening through the lens of faith, rather than partisan politics.
