Anne & Mark Weadons

Music has played an important part in Anne and Mark Weadons' lives. Prince of Peace is fortunate to have them share their talents. They have sung in churches around the world, enjoying every minute.

Anne is a native of Gloversville, New York, where she was born and raised. Her families were members of Central Presbyterian Church of Mayfield and Anne's parents still live in the family home. Mark hails from Kalamazoo, Michigan. He too was raised in the Presbyterian Church. They met as college students at Cornell University where Mark earned a degree in English while Anne's degree is in American History. They were married while he was attending University of Michigan where he earned his Masters and PhD in English.

Mark taught English for several years, then in 1980 he joined the Air Force and became a Meteorologist. Thus started a military life that saw the family move 17 times, including three tours in Germany, as well as tours in England and Hawaii. During their military life they attended Chapel where Anne directed choirs (adult, children and bell) and other times served as organist. She later went back to school earning a degree in accounting. She has done tax work and also worked as a librarian. Anne presently works as a secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Annapolis. Mark is currently a support contractor with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Weadons have been attending Prince of Peace since they moved to Crofton in 2002. They visited other churches but felt very welcome at POP. They became members in 2007. Their love of music led them to join the Sanctuary Choir the first week they attended.

Anne and Mark have two children; a son, Jonathan, married to wife Jasmine, and daughter, Molly, who attends and plays bells at POP. Jonathan and Jasmine have been in Africa for the past two years with the State Department. Anne, Molly and Mark thoroughly enjoyed a visit with them in Mali this past February. While there, they toured the Dogon country which proved very interesting with different native cultures.

At POP Mark has been an elder, team teaches adult Sunday school and, of course, sings in the bass section in the Sanctuary Choir. In the Sunday school class, the adults have been discussing the lectionary before attending church. "This gives you a different, more focused perspective on the sermon," Mark explained. Anne is currently serving as a Worship Committee Elder. She, too, sings in the choir, plays bells with the Boyles Ringers and, as needed, plays the piano or organ. The Chrismon tree in the Weadons' picture has been in the sanctuary during Advent and bears Christian symbols about Jesus which were made by Anne and a friend.

As one would expect, the Weadons' favorite activity is singing. They are members of the Chesapeake Chorale in Bowie. Both love to read and Anne enjoys gardening. She is a volunteer docent at the Library of Congress. Traveling is another activity they have done since Mark retired from the military. They have enjoyed visiting the Greek island Crete several times and have visited other countries in Europe.

Each has a favorite Bible verse. Anne's is Psalm 51:10: "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Mark chose Psalm 19:1: "The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork."

Be sure and look for the Weadons at the late service. Mark will be on the back row of the choir with the men's section and Anne is usually in the middle of the front row.
