Music has played an important part in Anne and Mark Weadons' lives. Prince of Peace is fortunate to have them share their talents. They have sung in churches around the world, enjoying every minute.

Anne is a native of Gloversville, New York, where she was born and raised. Her families were members of Central Presbyterian Church of Mayfield and Anne's parents still live in the family home. Mark hails from Kalamazoo, Michigan. He too was raised in the Presbyterian Church. They met as college students at Cornell University where Mark earned a degree in English while Anne's degree is in American History. They were married while he was attending University of Michigan where he earned his Masters and PhD in English.

Tish Smith

I enjoyed a morning chat recently with a long-time friend at Prince of Peace, Tish Smith. She reminded me we had both joined POP in the same membership class in the fall of 1974.  Tish explained how her family found POP.  The family had just moved to Crofton when her late husband, Walt Halfpap, was transferred for work. When they set out to find a church, they had the time wrong for one of the neighboring churches. They decided to visit POP, in the Fellowship Hall. They were warmly welcomed by Ed and Betty Post and quickly became involved in the growing church. Walt was enlisted as an usher the following Sunday. Tish became involved several years later after her children were older. This involvement has continued throughout the years.

To digress back to Tish’s beginning, she is a mid-westerner, born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where she was raised.  Her family attended the First Methodist Church where Tish was baptized, confirmed and later married.  She first sang in the choir as a youth.

Sandie McMillan

sandie_mcmillanSandie McMillan is an active member of Prince of Peace and one of the "Presbyterians since birth" that we have in our church. Born in Philadelphia, she grew up in Wyncote, PA where she attended Calvary Presbyterian Church from Sunday School through confirmation and into the church choir. She remembers the pin Presbyterian Sunday Schools gave the young people, a pin to which bars were added each year for attendance. I venture there are others who remember those pins.

After high school Sandie attended Endicott Junior College. She was working in the Philadelphia area when friends asked her to join them as a hostess for the dances at the Navy Yard. The "Mids" came up from Annapolis for the dances and Sandie met John. She soon visited Annapolis on weekends and would meet John at First Presbyterian for services. In the 50's, Midshipmen marched to churches in Annapolis and First Presbyterian had a large contingent. They were married after John's graduation July 5, 1958 with a military wedding at Calvary Presbyterian. They traveled around the United States, as all military families do, and ended up with a tour at the Naval Academy.

Inspiration

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. (James 1:2-4)
