church_membershipThe Meaning of Membership

A 'member' is a person that has chosen to make a commitment to serve Jesus in a local congregation of believers — choosing a particular congregation as their “church home.” Members have a vote in congregational meetings and are eligible to be nominated to serve as elders and deacons within that church.

What does membership mean exactly?

Membership in a church takes on many definitions, but perhaps the best is 'relationship'. Church members want to define themselves and feel accepted, affirmed, and appreciated as individuals. Members want to share in the management of the church and have a part in decisions which affect their worship.

What does church membership mean to the community?

Plainly stated, church people play important roles in civic life. Church members are known for serving others though the donation of meals, clothing, volunteer hours, and money to community and human help projects. Membership also legitimizes the church in the eyes of our local and federal government structure.

What does membership mean to the church?

One of the most obvious values of membership is in the power of numbers and our ability to serve the world around us!  People who believe in a church enough to join are going to support it financially, participate on workdays, support church activities, attend services, and be faithful to departments like Sunday School and Small Groups. In every way, members are the church.

What does membership mean to our fellowship?

Church membership means commitment, solid friendships, financial and program stability, and church respectability in the community. Membership brings with it additional opportunities for people to get to know others in the community around them by participation or sponsorship of fun and rewarding activities!

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:34-35)
